[589] Kirby Vacuum Cleaners - Dyro Productions - Lies about employment

$500 Dollars a week Lie
$2250 a month LIE
You get paid for training LIES
This company is owned by Warren Buffet LIES

These lies and many more were told to me and 15 other individuals during the training at Dyro Productions. I was hired on the spot by some sly lying deceitful lawyer, claming that I was going to be working in customer relations for at nothing lower than $2250 a month. This company hires young people and just flat out lies to them. I was told that I would 'average' $500 dollars a week. I was also told that it is possible to make money similar to a doctor or engineer, buy selling Kirbys door to door. Kirby's are good vacuums, but not worth $2000. I was skeptical about this statement. However, for a 'guaranteed' $2250 a month what's the worst that can happen? How about not getting PAID!!! This job is a SCAM/ PYRAMID SCHEME. The lying bastard told me that I would 'average' $250 from every Kirby I sold and that I would have at least 3 scheduled appointments with clients a day who would like to view a demo.

This con artist refused to answer any of my questions during training such as:

Since I am signing a W-9 do I get income tax?
I understand that the 'average' is 250 per sale, so what is the LOWEST amount that I will make?
So what time do I get back?

He claims that my questions are negative. WHAT!?!? Inquiring about the time I return from work is negative?

Another problem with this company is never during training does he mention the work hours. Which by the way are 12 HOURS!!!

During training I was told that I would be paid. After training I was informed that I would not be paid until the completion of two tasks. Remembering 20 stupid questions, and making 15 appointments. Making 15 appointments is not as easy as this lying lawyer will have you believe. '45sec is all it takes' B.S. More like it's not going to happen. Think about it. These people live in MILLION DOLLAR HOUSES. When knocking on doors you hear one of five responses. I have a maid, I have wooden floors, I already have a Kirby and the interest is ridiculous, my neighbor has a Kirby and feels like a sucker for buying one, or (my personal favorite) I am not interested. The area that my 'Team Leader' dropped me off has a NO SOLICITING policy. So while I am knocking on doors at 5 and 6 o'clock trying to complete my training I get a sixth response.... I am calling to cops. So I immediately leave and call my 'Team Leader' and he tells me to roll with the punches and sell sell sell.

My first and LAST day on the field, I learned just how deceitful Kirby was.

The way sales people or DDK get into houses is to BLANTLY LIE to consumers by offering a 'Free carpet cleaning'. Once inside the house, they just start pulling out attachments and explaining about the Kirby. Customers are often times stunned that you are with Kirby, they thought I was a carpet cleaning service.

While riding back with 6 people crammed into a truck I did basic arithmetic on my cell phone and discovered it is nearly IMMPOSSIBLE TO GET PAID!!!!
Watch:
In order to get the $2250 I have to perform 60 full demos in a 30 days. I get to work at 11am sit in some brainwashing KIRBY propaganda for an hour. Leave at 12pm arrive at the destination at 12:30pm. The 'Team Leader' finds a sell at about 1pm. In order for my demo to count towards my pay I must stay at that house for 2 hours. Yes 2 Hours. However, I will not have an immediate booking as claimed during training. Instead you knock on doors for hours. If lucky you get 3 full demos a day, most days it's 2, sometimes you only get 1. If you work 6 days a week that leaves 24 days to acquire 60 demos. They are closed on Sunday so it impossible to work 7 days. 60/24=2.5 So it seems plausible that this quota is possible if working 6 days a week? NO NO NO NO. If you manage to get 3 full demos 10 days, 2 full demos 14 days the resulting number is 58. So I get no pay. I work extremely hard, walking in extreme HOUSTON HEAT, talking to people who are expecting just a free carpet clean, being insulted, cops called, chased by dogs, walking in the rain... and for what NOTHING.

The average $250 mentioned per Kirby, is effected by the actual price it is sold to the costumer. I get $250 if it is sold at sticker price, which is about $2325. My Team Leader wont hesitate to drop the price to about $1480 to make a sell. So now my cut is about $160, however most people still turn this down because they were actually only interested in the free carpet cleaning. So now my cut is $0. If a customer does purchase a KIRBY and pays full price, but has “bad credit” my resulting commission is $10.

THIS IS A SCAM. DO NOT WORK FOR KIRBY. DO NOT BUY A KIRBY. KIRBY IS A SCAM TO BOTH THE BUYER AND THE SELLER.

  • I wouldn't work Kirby after reading the above post! - It doesn't seem like a good company to work for!

  • HA! i just went in for an interview like 30 mins ago and i was skeptical so i looked them up... and they told me the same thing. they told me i wouldn't be selling anything, bs. thanks alot. saved me alot of time, energy, and money.

  • thats CRAZY! I found a job posting on craigslist.com about office work needed, so I called and got an interview on the spot. When I went in for the interivew nothing had changed I still thought I was going to be the new receptionist. Come to find out at orientation that I'd be going to random houses trying to sell Kirby's!!! Everything in this report is true because they told me the same things. I'm supposed to be going in for training on Monday..needless to say I won't be going. THANKS FOR NOTHING KIRBY
    Posted 3 years agoReport
  • well for telling the truth, i was suppose to start training...not gunna happen. thanks man.
    Posted 3 years agoReport
  • SO TRUE!!!!! i just wasted a week and a half of my life plus at least 150 bucks in gas driving up there for training...nevermind the stress of trying to keep a "positive attitude" in a job where i was lied to and brainwashed into thinking i would be a millionaire in a few months. driving miles and miles to appointments (our office schedules them for you, as long as you force every customer to write down 25 refferals) just to have them say, "i just want my carpet shampooed". today i drove from concord, NH to derry, NH (about an hour) to a guy's house where i showed him the Kirby and he just nodded thru the whole thing...and then i cleaned his carpet, sweated my butt off and drove home with no money. AGHHHHHH this is such scam. thanks for putting this out here. :)

  • Wow - My experience was completely different. No knocking on doors - I seriously made WELL OVER $5000 a month starting with my first month - I've been employed by kirby for less than a year, and have already made close to $200,000 this year. No scams - appts are set by telemarketers who apparently are up front with these people on the phone. Sorry you have had bad experiences - must be the office!
    Posted 3 years agoReport
  • sorry if you feel you were lied to. dyro is under new training and hiring management. the base is $2000 per month if you complete the 60 presentations (2 per day) and the $250 comes from going through training doing 15 presentations and reciting 20 sales clenchers (which actually help you to leave machines inside of peoples homes). As far as the kirby company not being owned by warren buffet, do some research silly we have been owned by him since the 70's and we are listed as his cash cow. ive been in the company since i was 19 and i am 22 right now. im about to open up my own franchise and couldn't be happier. I guess the old saying is true, "we are all millionaires; we either have a million excused or a million bucks!!!"

  • I think the last two postings are probaly from the scammers themselves trying to ease the tension and make Kirby sound credible. But, Ive been there for about 2 days and I'm skeptical and everyone else I'm working with is skeptical too. Everyone I tell about the job all say its a pyramid sheme or some kind of scam. SO, save the sappy millinaire quotes, this job sounds like a total scam.
    Posted 3 years agoReport
  • Yeah, same thing. I found the posting on craigslist. I went in for an hour "orientation". They put the listing under general labor as "carpet cleaners". This was total bullshit. Then he informed me that we were selling Kirby vacuums. I have heard bad things before about Kirby's. After a warning from my friend, and quick google search I see tons of the same thing.

  • I worked for Kirby over the summer and the problem I have with them is, THEY ARE NEVER UPFRONT, THEY NEVER TELL THE TRUTH! I'm surprised they even explained to you the breakdown of how you make your money. I still maintain relationships with some of the friends I made with the Kirby company, and someof these individuals who have made their careers out of this still get scammed. They Real Problems is, anyone, ANYONE can get promoted to an area distributor and your moral character has no bearing on your rank in the company. Sometimes you might end up working for great people, most time you'll run into drug addicts, dope dealers, ex-cons, STILL CONS, and the list goes on. I've seen entire families broken up by the lies and scams that go on in this company. It's sad and I feel like if you'll give your own family the shaft, you do me even worse.
Remember- the love of money is the root of all evil!!!!!

  • i work for kirby and make 500-1000 a week. I am not a boss, I am not a distruber, I'm a 20 year old salesman livining with his parents just like the rest of you. First of all you don't get paid if you dont make your company any money, no matter what company you work for. I never made a dime from doing 15 demos a week or 60 a month. You have to make sales, to become to a distributer you have to have made 15 sales for 5 months straight. (the last guy who posted here doesnt know anything about kirby)
Kirby is a great place to work at if you know how to sell, and knowing how to sell doesn't mean you have to lie to people. The only time i ever lie to anyone is when someone asks me if i gave them the best price. Everything else to kirby does speaks for itself. It's an amazing machine and an amazig job. Make no mistake there are alot of cheap bosses(distributers) out there, but forever cheap kirby distributer there's 2 honest and genreous ones.
If you think about it, its natural to hear the bad things about a company more often then you here the good things. If a nice freindly salesman tries to sell you something you dont end up buying you would never tell anyone, why would you? Yet if that salesman lied and cheated you, you'd tell the whole world

  • I was mislead as well, I responded to a job requesting front desk/office help. During the ad I told the guy I was looking for something that was administrative and in the office and he told me that that is what they were looking for. During training we were told that we might have to do demos to instruct people how to use the equipment they had purchased, any appointments would be requested appointments by the consumer.
Last day of training - when I got there they had a pow wow meeting and divided us into teams. I didn't know I'd be outside all day, I wore short sleeves even though it was chilly outside. We got into vans, were driven into a neighborhood and assigned streets to knock. The only censoring they do on the neighborhoods is whether the houses are worth 200,000 and up. They don't do any kind of checking to see if there are any registered sex offenders in the area. Being female and left on the side of the street and my task for the day is to get knocked into a house, I was a bit nervous! Then when i did get an appointment, they brought me the equipment, introduced me, and left me in the house. They don't do any kind of checking up on you at all, and don't come back until you've called. For one of my classmates, he was in the house for almost 4 hours before they thought to check in on him.
And when the customer is ready for you to go and you call, they say they'll be there in 15 min, when they're at least 30 min. away. Which leaves you all awkwardly standing around, until they just tell you that they have errands to run and kick you out with the equipment.
The hours that day were horrible as well, got dropped off on some corner in the cold at 12:30 and didn't get picked back up until 10:00, not a single break for snack/lunch/drink during that time.
I met a couple of nice people, as in classmates that felt incredibly mislead to as well, but it was not worth the trouble.
And on top of all that I quit the job that I did have because I thought I had found a full time receptionist/customer service rep job. Now I'm jobless and having to start all over in the job hunt.
A huge waste of my time!

  • kirby is a fucking scam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for both the buyer and the seller! It is also VERY DANGEROUS, If a kirby salesperson knocks your door do not let them in!!! I can't believe they are still outhere they should be shut down immediately!!!, They hire people on the spot without any background checks or anything...I just found out that throught out the years there have been cases of sexual harrassment/theft/burglary/fraud..etc...Like I mentioned they might be hiring sexual offenders, drug addicts, burglars...etc... and you're letting this people inside your home! And if you're the seller they probably lied to you about the 2,5000 a month. Please do some research, open your eyes, and mostly don't waste your TIME!!!

  • I keep seeing ignorant comments everywhere about how kirby is a scam, kirby guys are dangerous, kirby lies about everything, blah blah blah.
That is just total bullshit. Someone posted earlier a link to berkshire hathoway (warren buffet's investment business) which proves the lie about him not owning us.
I hear people bitch about us knocking on doors without permits. well tell me one good reason why we should pay a town or city to knock when our sales tax goes to the city? if we sell something, they get ppaid. why should we give these assholes free money for no good reason?
I hear people bitch about not getting paid for doing their demos, which is unfortunate, but that's either a franchise owned by an asshole (which can happen in any business) or something else.
Like not being a people person in a person oriented business.
Even more common are the assholes who expect free money. The whole idea behind our fifteen demo for pay program is the fact that if you have any chance at all of being worth our time and effort you will sell something if you do that many demos in a week. If you work for a crappy distributor who won't pro-rate your pay for what you did do (if you don't get fifteen demos) well sorry, you worked for an ass.
If you dont believe in the product, or feel like it's a scam, or think it's overpriced....guess what fool, you will put that vibe off to the customer (who the hell would want to buy from someone like that? not me) and why should we pay people who not only don't do the full fifteen demos a week, but also don't even really try to sell the product or learn how to sell the product? if you work for kirby, you are a SALES PERSON, you get paid to do the demo program properly or to sell. we don't pay you for your time and effort, we pay you to sell. I don't know of any company that will pay you if you don't do your job properly. I only worked two days these past two weeks and made 1600 dollars, then i took the rest of the time off, so much for long hours.
what all these complaints really break down to is one simple thing, you guys sucked at our job and/or didn't believe in the opportunity.

  • I was hired on the spot. I went to 2 days orientation. The trainer had a lot of Gold on, expensive cars, toys, etc... and said he lived in the same kind of house as the Dr. across the street. It sounded to good to be true and this add runs every week. Not going back.

    Thanks

  • okay, if you make so much money, why is the interview so easy? And how do you get hired on the spot? I can't believe that customers really want you in your home for two hours. I would feel bad bugging people that long. I wasted my time today on my first day of orientation. I feel like such a fool. If they are a reputable company why do they put fake ads in Craigslist . I was so excited and really though I got a new job. I told everybody I got a job, screw them.

  • i just went to my first day of orientation, yesterday i applied for a "customer service" position, and 3hrs later i was hired. So today they jazz us all up on the 400/weekly and +150 for each vac we sell, and also the 4 paid vacations that kirby takes you on, and the hoodrat instructor told us how drunk off their asses they get (Really professional for that type of money), She claimed to have bought a house from working at kirby and moving out the project and how she gets 1k/week as a hiring manager, yet she was dressed in clothes that looked like they were off the walmart clearence rack and her eyebrows looked like drawings from a 5year old. I'm deff not going back for training, however i will be making 15 copys of this page and handing it out to the other mislead people at the orientation, right before i curse out that Decieving waste of sperm.

  • They offer you $475 if you reach your 15 demos a week, and attend 5 morning meetings. This is extremly hard to do considering I work another job as well. but that's the point they want to make. It is to motivate you to sell. It makes much more sense to do 9 demos a week, and make 2-3 sales. then to do 15 half ass demos. if you work hard, and want to get into sales this is a good oppurtunity. they have alot of incentives, that keep you motivated. And also it will take a few motnhs to get good at the demos. so if you invest enough time, and energy it will pay off big time.

  • A cute young girl knocked on my door and offered me a free carpet cleaning. I couldn't say no to her. An hour later a fat guy barges into my home and starts to lay out all this vacuum equipment. I had to endure 3 hours of painful sales pitches to get my carpet cleaned.

The funny thing is my carpet stains are still there. If a stain has been in your carpet for 10 years nothing will get it out.

The vacuum looks like a good vacuum but $2400 for a vacuum is ridiculous. At the end of 3 hours the price dropped to $998. The only way they would leave was a threat to call the police.

I did simple searches on craigslist and ebay. You can buy used kirby's for 100-300 bucks. $100 for older models and $300 for the newest model.

From my experience and reading other postings this company feels like a scam. I saw the van that picked up all the salesmen at the end of the night. It was around 11PM when they finally left.

  • ive been looking for a job since i moved back up to michigan in 2 months ago... the job market is terrible. i seen an add on craigs list so i call them up. they set me up for an interview not even two hours later... it all seemed WAY too good to be true, but i though "what the hell, why not at least see what its about." i honestly had no clue, even after the interview, that i was to be a kirby salesperson... my brother previously worked for kirby about 4 years ago, sold 6 kirbys in one week, and didnt earn a dime... i knew this going into even my second day of training, which was last night. we were to set up appointments with friends and famiyl for training, which i had no problem doing... my family is dutch, they werent gonna buy anything. i honestly think that the main reason i put so much time into this was to really see if what everyone was saying was true. i showed up at my aunts house at around 7 at night on a friday. when i got there, i had told her i dont expect her to buy anything, i just want to get some training under my belt. after i did the "demonstration" (eat that kirby... ill call it whatever the fuck i want), i was to call the manager. i fed her a line of bull shit and she tried knocking the price down to $1000 dollars... now, tomorrow is "national sell a kirby day" and im actually supposed to be there in less than 4 hours, but i have been up all night reading how everyone has been fucked over... ive read over 100 posts of everyone saying exactly what ive thought since day 1... how in the SAM HELL am i to get paid if im giving them the kirby for 1000??? everyone else has got to make that money too... im not gonna lie, the vacuum is kick ass, but im not about to go door to door on people... fuck this job, im done, lol. thanks guys

  • Two weeks ago Kirby showed up to my house during the day and for fifteen minutes I had to explain to them why I didn't want to have them vacuum my stairs, especially while my husband wasn't home. I didn't know it was free, but I did know they were trying to sell me something... I just didn't know how much it was going to cost me.
Earlier tonight they returned now that my husband was home. No, I didn't ask them to return, they just probably heard me say he'd be home around 5pm and that's why they showed up when they did 2 wk later.
I said they could do it now that my husband was home and when the demo guy Monty came to the door my hubby let him in, not knowing he was from Kirby. Three hours and a 3500 dollar vacuum later I found out my husband went to a job interview for Kirby and knew it was no good. Monty did his demo even while I was trying to cook dinner. I had already expressed we couldn't afford it and won't have extra money any time soon. He said he'll 'knock off' his commission which was a red flag to me, but I wish my husband would have said something. When my hubby did try to talk to me the manager followed us into another room and would not let us talk it over between our selves. He just kept talking and talking, selling an selling. He told us it would end up being 2,340
with 8% annual interest. He said we wouldn't have to pay for two months. He said there was no penalty for pre payment.
All of these lies. First He figured 8% interest on the contract per year equalled 24% interest. I asked him about that and he jsut kept talking. By the time I signed the contract I was just trying get dinner finished and serve it so I was distracted and wanted him to leave. Half way through dinner I was able to finally get him out of the door and later looked over the contract. They added 24% interest fromt he get-go which means I'm paying about 1,000 in interest no matter what. That is the pre payment fee if I could pay it off earlier. 2nd, our first payment is due in two weeks, not two months!
I'm so happy for buyer's remorse. We actually only bought because of buyers remorse, then we could get them out of our house and not pay a dime anyway. But after seeing the problems with the contract I am just pissed and can't wait to return it! I was lied to multiple times to my face. Kirby is a scam!

I I was a college grad sitting with young naive adults who seemed to be enthusiastic about it. i felt bad for them and myself for being in the room. The guy doing the training then asked me to leave after only half an hour because he could tell that i wasnt buying this bullshit. i did get a good laugh out of it though. very sleezy. i kind of wish i had stuck with it just for entertainment. also the girl doing the hiring was a knockout. should have asked her on a date.

  • As a whole reading these posts it looks like different people got hired in on different programs. Some were hired for a garuntee and others for straight commission. Personally I would rather be on straight commission as my distributor gives all of the dealers in the organization 3 appointments a day. The cost we pay for the machine is based on how many machines you have sold in the past. Im on my 4th month of fifteen deals in a month and get the kirby for a little over a thousand. I've never personally been shorted but I have read alot of the posts of how a specific dealer makes a claim that they did 60 demo's or 50 and didn't get paid their demo pay. There are flaws in all one way stories that I don't have to go into and I hope you feel me on that. As a whole kirby has been an interesting road for me personally. I made good money the entire time I was in school at LCC and MSU for computer science. If your lazy and don't have an interest in working past 6pm or are afraid of a 12 hour day then maybe telemarking is more your bag. And honestly I never watched anyone do 60 demo's in one month and not sell at least eight deals. At the office I work for in Lansing the bonuses alone on 8 in a month is 750 dollars plus if you can get at least 200 bucks a machine and sell it for 1200 you would have made 2250 that month :P.
PS - to all the people that sold one for 1000 and made 25 bucks or nothing, Thats basically cost on the machine for me. If I buy something for 1000 dollars, and sell it for 1000 and then pay the finance company to finance it i actually lose money.

  • Thank you all very much for taking your time to post this. My fiance was on her second day of training when we decided to check on kirby scams and this post saved some tears. We are a young couple trying to get by while she is going to college and I am receiving unemployment. We are going to make copies of information about pyramid scams and all of these experiences as an example and protest outside of the distributors next week before they take out there new batch of young adults just looking for a break in finding a job in this economy. I hate to see people do this and I think the government needs to step in and do something about these scams. If everyone who was scammed like this protested for one hour outside of these distributors it would shine some light on this specific scam to the public.

  • Dyro Productions, 85% scam 15% ok if you have no life, no family and can commit to 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. Pros, the commission if you can actually sell a kirby and do all of the BS they require of you and then you'll get your money. My husband and I both went to work for them, luckily he had 4 sales in 2 days, but he worked his azz off, had to do his own knock ins and basically pull every sales approach out of his azz in order for the sale to take place. Needless to say, that was a lucky week because he didn't get any more sales and of course because he sold 4 @$500 a pop he made his commission for the month and didn't sell anything else for the remainder of the month. In the right environment it could be a good business, but unfortunately too many lies and those who do make real money there, I have seen it, compromise their morals and refuse to leave people's houses until they have bought the Kirby. Terrible business model. This job is definitely for 18 year olds with nothing else better to do with their time who can hopefully sell through the BS, otherwise, stay away from DP. The other sad part is that they actually buy the Kirby for $325 each, so how can you morally sell it for $2325

He is a fucking scam artist and has no soul! All he does in stand around and text and talk about himself and how fucking much he makes a week! HOWEVER, I just spent the last six hours online reading all of this... shit about these independent franchises, one of which I worked for unitl about ten seconds ago when I handed in my telepathic resignation. • The Kirby company is indeed owned by berkshire hathaway, It is listened under SCOTT FETZER, which comes from the original founders george scott and carl fetzer who bought the patent from jim kirby. if you dont believe me you can pull up either warren buffett or berkshire hathaway on wikipedia, and find out for yourself or just go to the B.H. web site yourself.

  • there are two kinds of people in this world...those who go out there and become successful and other people who just make excuses for their shortcomings and inability...the Kirby company has slowly making my fiance and i millionaires because we took advantage of the opportunity..We just opened up our own franchise four month ago and we have 10 employees who are very success and loyalty to us as their employer. We are always upfront and honest with our reps and it is unfornate that you had the experience you did, but dont knock the whole company...just becuase your a slacker and dont want to work doesnt mean that other people shouldnt take advantage of this opportunity. So i will be laughing alll the way to the bank while your miserable at your typical 9-5 $8.00 an hour job
    Posted 2 years agoReport
  • You're not a millionaire. And just because someone decides to not work for Kirby doesn't mean they're doomed for failure. And I really doubt you opened up your own franchise, very people actaully do and are successful at it. Now I believe in the Kirby opportunity as much as I did the first day, but Dyro is just shit. I didn't slack, in fact I was quite good at it. I just wasn't willing to trade my life for 6 12 hour days a week. And that's why people knock the company. They recruit people in a very dishonest way. If they were upfront no one would have a problem with it, but Dyro puts up ads on Craigslist offering a front office position. That's a blatant lie. If you're upfront and honest with your reps, then let them know they can come in and go home whenever they want. They can choose who they ride or where they knock. Tell them they can keep their trade-ins because it's money off their commission. Let them know they can close the sale themselves and not call the contest desks. And when you "secretary" puts up ads, state that's it's strcitly commission and it's a SALES position. While you do that, I'll enjoy spending my check on my days off while YOU go to work. =)

The Dyro productions does lie to u about lots of stuff but if u r rly desperate for a money and wanna work ur ass off then this is the rite job for u.. but as far as me.. its a big NOO NOO... by the way the three girls they got working at the front are smoking hot... • I used to work for the company for almost a year. I can tell you first hand that the job can be very unforgiving at times, that is if your just being casual about it and not going all out and trying your best. People purchase these machines everyday for a few reasons. One they are the best. I don't care what you say if you think any different then you don't know what your talking about. Of course some people are going to tell you their not interested initially because they may already own a vacuum and feel that it works especially if they just bought it. They don't know what we do. They don't know that their vacuum is not doing the job they got it to do. Their not aware of all the features and benefits that our vacuum offers. You have to build value and show them all the ways it can save them money. In home demonstrations are not mandatory just cause that's the way we do it, it's because we need to show them everything. People are always thanking us for coming by and giving us references. Just be professional. Dress for success. Expensive you might think, but for an American made product that will last you 30-40 years it's going to be a little expensive. It's an INVESTMENT! The savings far outweigh the asking price. Your not alone tho. There are many people I've seen personally walk through those doors and tried it out for 1 day, didn't have any success and quite. After just one day? That shows you just how persistent these people really are. More likely than not these people will never become successful because little do they know that anything worth having in life is not easy. Maybe blue collar labor is what they are accustom to. They seek security rather than opportunity. Inflation is just one step behind minimum wage (security) and climbing fast. Don't nip in the bud other individuals opportunity to do something great with this company by instilling fear in their hearts by staying away from establishments such as this one. I personally know the owner and can tell you he is one hard working man and would help you anytime as long as he feels your trying to help yourself and not just looking for an easy buck. This is the only company that I ever came across that in the most minimal amount of time they will promote you and give you the opportunity to own your own franchise and change your financial destiny. Did I forget to mention the PAID for trips that this company always has. I think it's like 3 or 4 times a year. Every other office in your division will be there. Anyway I just wanted to clear that up. Anyone looking into ever going into that direction don't be worried. It's a natural feeling to be a little skeptic at first especially when you have no idea what your getting yourself into. Go ahead and try it. Don't listen to other people. They will steal your dreams. Just cause they failed they want as many other people to stay at the bottom with them so they are not alone. Do today what other won't so that you may have tomorrow what others don't.

  • If Dyro was up front and honest, and posted ads stating they were looking for sales representatives...people would have a different type of response. What about the people that are on their last $20 and think they are applying for an actual customer service hourly job? What about the people that have someone else depending on them? Kirby is on of the best opportunities out there, I agree. The actual Kirby istelf is worth what is asked for. If Dyro was honest, I assure you there wouldn't be so many complaints. They begin lying to you the moment the ad is placed. So people feel like they were tricked, and feel stupid for spending their last $20 on gas, then being told it's commision only. Tell people it's commission only. That the trade-in cuts their commision, therefore...they can keep the trade-ins instead of having Dan's dad clean them up and re-sell them. Don't scare the shit out of people telling them they can't miss a day. Or that their doomed for failure anywhere else.

I stupidly agreed, and a few minutes later a guy dropped off some old lady who tried to sell me a freaking $2000 vacuum cleaner. I asked her to leave my house now, and she politely (lying, I'm sure) told me she couldn't since she was just dropped off and couldn't leave for 2 hours. I'm filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Houston Police, this scam needs to stop!

  • I posted this on another message board, but I want people to be aware of what they're getting into. The office I went to was (F&D Associates, LLC) in New Jersey.

I have read a lot of the posts on here, and I'm not discrediting any one particular statement. This is merely my own experience and it is a little biased considering the research I've done. With that said, I will explain.

I received a call about a job that I had applied for, the description was very limited but it piqued my interest as it was listed under Customer Service, and with having done a lot of phone sales and customer service I didn't question it. I'm aware of a lot of the scams that have exploded all over job sites. However, I was fooled. Anyway, I wanted to at least interview because I wasn't really given that much information over the phone. When I got there I spoke with a woman who confirmed that it was a "customer service position making $400-$800 per week selling power tools." That is a direct quote, no joke. I was lied to from the start! I really wanted to give it a try. The job market has been tough. I also haven't had much education in addition to my HS Diploma. When I walked in for training it was really a wordy pitch about Kirby Vacuums. Selling the job and the product is something I've seen before, but he was very convincing. I was STILL interested even after being misled by the initial interview. Once I was told to start with my own connections and demonstrate for them I knew that something was up. Essentially it is a pyramid scheme, or at least at first. During a break outside, everyone seemed blown away by the interview and not skeptical at all. That is probably because most of them were under 20 years old, some having no HS education or coming from somewhere like Wendy's. We were told not to be negative so I didn't share my feelings. I now know this is another scam. If anyone questions their methods they are shot down. If I had shared my views, other people would have maybe reconsidered. He was talking about huge houses, and vacations, and cash bonuses. I'm only 26, but I could see through the BS. The vacuum is great...don't get me wrong. I was amazed by it, and it could really sell itself. When I did the research I found some horror stories.

No one has to convince me that it is a scam. In fact the people that are FOR the company are actually the ones that confirm it. Why are they even on these message boards in the first place? To LIE! Why would someone who loves the company so much search a message board that is calling it a scam? You don't know how many message boards I've read where someone who "loves" Kirby use the expression "bad apple" and the trainer actually used that expression too. You guys are following a script whether you know it or not. Everything that I was told by the trainer has been recited on message boards alike, and that is too much of a coincidence. Even if there are a few goods ones out there, the majority of you are cons, and that is evident by ...well the evidence really. It's not worth taking a chance. There are tons of reputable companies that would not have the enormous amounts of negative feedback that Kirby does when it comes to their employees. You guys talk about "Bad Apples" so much, well when you have bad apples..."come on guys! you know this..." it spoils the bunch. I still have to continue training tomorrow, but I will not be returning. Thanks, but I'd like to keep my integrity and dignity. I just feel sorry for the people there who are naive, and don't even see this coming. They prey on people trying to get their lives established, and really trick you. Hopefully they will wise up too.

I was told $2100.start pay I asked like lot of people that if I had to meet some amount of sales in order to make the $2100 i was told no in the intervied . Then in traning you have your 3 /demos a day and your month total somewhere around 60 . I found out this was not looking good and I just didn't get a good vibe form this . I was welling to work at it and make something out of it I have a family but I can't go without pay check for weeks and I'm the guy walking around and knocking on peoples doors and crap . I dont know about the rest of you guys but they seemed to rushed through thier traning hell people in the class I was in could not even change from vac to the shapoo set up . I've since have to say this is by far the worst traning 2 days I have ever been in . Hell I got friends that set through traning in call centers and get paid for it paper worked filled out the first day not at Kirby they get around the last day traning and then they all your info and thats when we (4 ) people told about the pay I guess they are down to like 2 or 1 becosue I walked out behind me other guy as well . • Lets set the record straight...the guy that orginally posted this is an idiot because he called the kirby company a scam. It wouldn't be a billion dollar debt free company if it was a scam, the company would not have lasted that long (96 years). Second he called it a pyrmaid scheme. Which it is obvious he has no idea what a pyramid scheme really even is. Fact the company makes you sign a dealer agreement, that says before you even go to the field, that if you don't complete 15 FULL demos you do not get paid the guarantee. So if you don't complete the demos it is your fault not anyone elses. Just because you fail at something you want to place the blame on someone else. Your pathetic. Truth is you can make the kind of money a doctor or lawyer makes and a whole lot more then that if you have what it takes to become a distributor. Just like any business your going to have to pay your dues. How about you man up and except the fact that your a whiny little loser that probably won't make anything out of yourself if you keep making excuses for your failures.

  • stay positive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not. i tried that b.s. for a few weeks. its not worth it. you wont get 60 demos in a month. and 95% of your sales will be b-loan or specials. $10-25 commission on each. not to mention working 14-15 hour days knocking on doors. this is no excuse. I pride myself on my hard work and dedication. i had no choice but to give it my all. i still tried after i KNEW it was b.s.

if you have any sort of respect for other people then you will not do well working for kirby. But, if you are a lieing, deceitful, pushy ***hole you probably can be successful working for dyro, superior systems, or any of the other thousands of "authorized kirby dealers"

  • I recently responded to an ad on the SouthTexasJobs.com Weekly paper which I obtained in my nearest workforce center. It read “20-30 hard working individuals needed to work for an appliance company; will train in how to use equipment (which wasn’t too far from the truth); $2000 a month base pay plus bonuses and promotions. The Interviewer even told me during the interview that it was for Kirby, but I was only going to learn how to use the equipment to show people how it works. They also emphasized that this was not a “sell or starve” type of job, and that we would get paid our $2000 a month even if we didn’t sell a thing. They scheduled me to come to unpaid orientation for the next 3 days for which I had to cancel some substituting gigs at a local school district for which I work for. So there was an immediate cost of opportunity of $70 dollars a day for doing so. The trainer came in a bit hung over and was dressed very unprofessionally with torn jeans and a filthy beard. He took us into the training room which looked pretty crappy and dirty in itself to start us off by introducing ourselves to each other and giving us an official demo of the Kirby. I will admit that the Kirby impressed me a bit, especially with the sand lifting power it has. However, things started to get fishy when the guy explained how we would get paid. He said that the $2000 was only to be viewed as a safety net in case of there being insufficient sales, and that in the end of the month, if our commission was less than that, they would pay us the remaining amount to complete the $2000. To this they added that no one in the history of Kirby has gone a full month without sales since the Kirby basically “Sells itself” and that if someone did, they would take their picture and create some kind of wall of shame at the corporate office to put it on. The trainer also told us that a demo would run from 45 minutes to like an hour and a half depending on the speed and efficiency of the dealer. The owner of the place (in Mcallen, TX by the way, called “Karanimals”) explained that we had to do 50 demos a month in order to qualify for the base pay. However, in the second day of training they gave us a paperwork packet in which it clearly stated that we had to do 70 demos with approximate 2-3 hour duration in order to qualify for the base pay. Every time we approached the trainer with questions about the discrepancies on the documents, she would just answer that they were misprints and that they would be fixed soon after. I only filled out parts of it because we had to continue the orientation, but I totally didn’t sign that part of the 70 demos until I researched about this company. I only wish I had done it since day one. Later on that day, the owner gave us an appointment sheet to schedule demos for 10 people from our friends and family. They also gave us a list of characteristics of the type of prospects we had to target, which included “Retirees.” I got to talk to some of the current employees that had been out in the field and asked one of them how long he’d been working there and how much he had earned. He told me that he had been working there for about 2 weeks and that he only made 2 sales amounting to less than $500. That’s less than minimum wage! This was just too fishy, so when I went home that afternoon, I researched the company thus confirming my suspicions. A lot of the stories matched what I had been exposed to during those 2 days of orientation. They all have really dirty mouths and some of them made comments of sexual nature since day one. The trainers and owner say they all have a degree in something and a great deal of experience and that only work for Kirby because it’s where the money is. However, they’re all driving pieces of crap to work, including the owner and the office is really insignificant and a poor image for a company that is supposed to be making the big bucks. One of the trainers who said to have made tons of money there ran out of gas right after orientation and had to get his boss to take him to go get gasoline, probably because the fuel gauge on his old ass suburban from the nineties (in desperate need of a paint job) is broken or something. Overall, this was a tremendous waste of time and gas to go to the interviews and orientation. As soon as I found out about all this complaints online, I told all the people I had contact with from my training class so they could cut their losses while they’re still young. Over all, it seems as if Kirby works this way everywhere deceiving employees and customers all over. Bottom line, DON’T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS COMPANY!!!

• Wow, I am so glad that I looked this up. I, like most of you, found the ad on craigslist. The ad is for managers, not sales people. I, like most of you, went to the interview and was told to call back in 1 hour. I was hired and began training yesterday.
To be honest, my situation was a bit different and I feel silly for not seeing it for what it was. The building I went into was kinda scary looking. It had broken windows, no actual parking lot, just an expanded gravel drive way and, oddly enough, dirty carpet. I almost laughed when I was told this was a vacuum cleaner company.
I was promised $1,800 per month per my 60 demos. I went to my first training yesterday. While listening to the trainer and HIS personal success story, I couldn't help but absorb the fact that nothing he presented in his looks or appearance give the impression of good earnings. Not to say that he has to wear gold jewelry to be successful. But anyway. As he explained all the financial aspects, it was clearly a sort of pyramid scheme. Though it may not technically be defined as 1, it most certainly is. I nearly walked out but decided to stay and hear his pitch. That maybe I was wrong and being judgmental. After 2 hours of his orientation, I left feeling a little better and decided I would try it out and return today for further training. He's definitely a salesman. Going over all of this in my head, I couldn't sleep, so I decided to investigate this a bit and GLAD I did! I should have trusted my instincts. Maybe he is a "bad apple" but I most certainly won't be going back there today. Funny, yesterday at orientation, as I rolled my eyes at his examples of how rich he has become, I looked out the window and noticed, the porche he owns, wasn't in the parking lot, in fact, neither was the cadillac. The only vehicle was a 90's model, beaten up mini van. This particular franchise is not on the up and up. It is not honest. It is not what it seems. Nashville, Tn.

  • ^^^^You are stupid and you are clearly lying. You don't get an hour break after each demo. And you're most likely broke if you do. The meeting is a brainwashing session. The first step of brainwashing is REPETITION. Why do you think ya'll say and talk about the same shit over and over again every single day?! Positive. Positive. Positive. My ass. You are the dumbasses going out to sell while Dan sits back and gets high off his ass. And it's not a $4000 machine. It's $2592 which Dan only pays $300 of.

I have read a few people say the same.I believe they may be selling our phone numbers to telemarketers. She had her own cell phone with her that worked fine.-Colorado springs

  • Yeah, I almost got ripped off. After signing a contract for $1400 for 2 Sentira's (what the hell do I need 2 Sentria's for??????), I came to my senses the following day, and sent them the cancel notice from the contract. By the way, I have the same question as some posts: why do they ask to use your home phone to call their "boss" up instead of using their cell phone. I wonder if it is suppose to let the boss know that they are still at the house?????

Upon my arrival i filled an application then a gorgeous young looking woman came to get me for an interview. She told me i would be a customer service representative and it did not involve door to door knocking. I was told to call them at 5:30PM... I was skeptical at first because when i got to the company it was shabby looking and i tried to see how big it was on the inside and maybe figure out where i would be working. I couldnt find any work space that looked decent..All i saw were some men at the back of the office smoking that looked like con artist... and yes they have three gorgeous ladies at the front office to lure more people...Once again thank you for the comments. I wouldnt be going there again..... DP IS A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In New Hampshire here. I responded to an add on craigs list that was sappose to be sales selling cleaning products. It was for a company in Concord that had an LLC at the end. It did not say Kirby. I was hired and went in for training. In I walked, and Bam! thier were was the Kirby sign. On the table was a bunch of other product so I thought, hey maybe its selling them? In walks the trainer. Oh yah. Its selling Vacuum cleaners. The deceit was on from the start. They couldnt even have a sign on the outside that it was Kirby. They know, that if they did that, no one would be their. Here I am ready to lose my home after being out of work for 2yrs. One kid was living out of his car. I figured what the hey, I will listen to the spew. We were expected to not get paid for 3 days of training. Oh we could if we could do 10 demos over the weekend to our family members. Get this-to train. Oh, they wanted us to get 10 ref from each of those. Those people should be ashamed of themselves. I know you guys read this. Some day you will get to be by age, and you will realize and think about all those that you xxxxxx. All those people that were down and out and you wanted to take advantage of them. Shame on you, shame on you. God will be your judge. You use people and their familys to get all the names. I tried to find out what this job was about and even the receptionist was in on it. She would not tell me on the phone. Its because the scumbag that does the traininig must get paid per person that he gets to come into training. Shame Shame shame. very sad. I hope I am their to hear it on the news when you guys finally get yours. People stay away or get burnt. Peace.

Peace.

  • people these bungholes need to be sought out by something like Dateline on tv. You know when they go and expose a company. Boy, I would love to see a report on that. Have them go with cameras to a few of these LLC, Factory outlets ect... Let them be seen on 20/20, or Dateline for what they are. Users of the worst sort. Very shame.

So after riding my bike over 10 miles in this Houston summer heat.... iFill out this application and like 10 mins later this chick called me in. Her teeth looked horrible. She had big titties tho lol and a tight ass outfit and she looked to b about my age(23) anyway.. she talked really fast and when iAsked further questions about the 'customer service' position, she kinda repeated the sme thing reaally fast. iWas tryin to find out exactly what the job was. it sounded like it was inbound customer service on the phone but she wouldnt tell me. I was sposta b waitin on a call from them tommorrow.... but fuck that! they'reto far away for me to b dealin with ther bullshit in this heat lol

  • In Fresno CA, They advertised as Factory Outlet. My son applied, thnking it was a factory job. They made all of the above promises. They say they provide the 60 leads, which hasn't happened. They put these young people in a van and try to get in homes and keep them out until 11-12 at night. They feed them lunch and they cannot leave until all are done. The weather is heating up in our area. He will be quitting soon. I guess it is a good lesson in dishonesty and bad business practises. I am going to complain to the National Labor Relations Board and the Better Business Bureau as soon as he quits. They will not provide him with the employment agreement that he signed. Lies, lies, lies! Shame on Kirby!!!

  • This is the funniest shit i have ever read.. you complaining ass generation "Y" lazy pussies..Just because you dont have what it takes to be successful or work hard for serious $$ .. Enjoy being poor, a loser, and using your loanstar card to feed yourself..But hey, we have a socialist in office.. so enjoy living off government assistance while it lasts .. He wont be there long.. Peace losers.. Justin (top trainer in the division)

  • High five Justin high five!! By the way congrats on your own office at age 23! How many of you can say youre there? and not to mention all of you ppl who go on about these ppl who work for Kirby lying about being rich are simply ignorant because you couldnt make it. I happen to know for a fact you do make ALOT of money as long as you do your job but most ppl now are so lazy and obsessed with the idea of working in an airconditioned office that you are closeminded to the thought of real hard work. My advice to all of you is dont be so stuck up and maybe one day you can be as good as Justin and maybe even Dan!

  • Hi,
I just joined Kirby in Australia recently, and not really sure if its a scam or not? I meant what the trainer told us is too good to be true but for some reason he looked abit fishy, that he got something to hide... he voice was shaky when spoken and he doesnt dress like a successful person.

We was told we get $3100 every month just doing 60 demos and 0 sale, for example if we made 2 sales a week, we get $700 for commision and $400 for just doing 15 demos/ week which equals $1100, otherwise just $750 for no sale.

I probably try this out for a month and see if it's actually real, and I promised everyone out there if its a scam then I will not make you buy it, I just try to get my 60 demos and see if the money roll in as promised.

  • i'd rather work a 9-5 job instead of HARASSING people in their homes!
would also rather get hourly and know im getting paid FOR SURE!
WHY do they lie to get you in? does it SUCK that bad that they have to lie to bring people in, HONEST people who work for a living. How does a company expect positive reviews when previous employers have negative things to say? Everything is very fishy...i'd avoit DP as much as possible.. the guys in the office are douche bags and if u calim to have ur own bussiness with them, then you are thief ( selling 300$$ vacs for 2000+) and you lie to you future employees.
all they tlak about is how MUCH THEY make...
Money is the root of all evil, if thats all you care about your going to hell.. not to mention the lying!!!! geeze may god forgive every single one of you JERKS!!!!

  • That is because you suck me and my husband both work for kirby and have for 3 years. He is manager and makes 5,000 grand a month and I as a dealer make 6,000 a month on average 1,500 a week. The dude above prolly didnt do it work long or did follow directs it is very simple to sell a kirby they are the best vacum. Also his distributor just could have been a bad one. All distributors for kirby are self owned. Kirby is the greatest company to work for if you work in a good division with good boss. I have been to arizona, cumberland, florida, tantara, and the bahamas with the comapny and its a blast. Dont believe everything you read. Try it for yourself if you dont have a job you might really like it and if not well who cares move on. People that post complaints like this obviously have nothing better to do with there lifes!!! • D.C.I is basically Dyro Productions and run their sells from the so called employee who is now a independent contractor. The product you sell is a good product but is heavily overpriced not only by Kirby but mostly by the distributors which is Dyro productions. You call for an interview and the lady runs through interviews and will mostly likely hire anyone on the spot. They lie and say the building is new but in orientation they say they been at the location for eight years. You think its a regular job but you are to unsatsifyling going to perswade people who most likely wanting a free carpet cleaning then end up maybe 1/3 sell a kirby for a person that is honest will only make only 20 dollars it is only a hot check because they depost the money into there account then they take the money out when you try to depost it into your account. They lied about the trip is the same thing repeated there last trip was from Las Vegas and a person named Al will show the same picture reguardless of what time of year and say they went to Las Vegas date always change on the flyer.A guy named Al never give you his real name.
