I have had the very same problem with the same companies and their affiliates, I am cancelling my credit card and i agree with you as i will never order anything online again unless i can use paypal or a secure site. Something must be done to stop these businesses, I am €300 (Euro) poorer and am dealing with a credit card company that are very unsympathic (MBNA).
